Looking ahead to 2022 and beyond

Dear reader,

Please forgive my delay in writing this note. Life, as they say, happens. I also needed time to think about how Reservoir Road should move forward after a very fruitful first year.

After adding multiple volunteer editors to the team in 2021, I became increasingly aware of how much is asked of these editors in rapid succession with little to no break. As much as we love the work, it’s a lot for a volunteer team, and it’s a lot for me, too.

That is why we’ve decided to change the submission and release schedules for Reservoir Road. Beginning immediately, we plan to publish four issues each year on a quarterly basis. Issues will come out on the last Tuesday of March, June, September, and December. We also plan to have four reading periods each year on a quarterly basis. Submissions will open on the first of January, April, July, and October. They will close at the end of the month or when each individual category reaches its submission cap, whichever comes first. We also plan to increase the size of each issue. Depending on the number of submissions received under this new model, we will publish either 16 or 20 pieces each issue.

The magazine itself, our vision and focus, and our drive to lift voices from underrepresented groups and unique circumstances have not changed and will remain central to what we do. We can’t wait to continue sharing the wonderful writing and photography of our contributors with you in the year ahead. We hope you enjoy this first issue of 2022 and the issues to come.

Yours,

Adrienne Marie Barrios
